Community Service

As a goal, some of our quilt making efforts are directed specifically at benefiting our local community.

In past years, we have donated quilts to the Mariposa County Foster Parents Association, Mountain Crisis Center Womens Shelter, and to the Children's Protective Services.  We enjoy giving these quilts during our Christmas Celebration.

We have also made Hand Print blocks for Childrens Hospital, Doll cribs for disadvantaged children.

This remains a vital and important part of our groups focus as we go into 2011, and will continue to be so in the future.

Tips and Ideas
  1. Don’t toss those catalogs that show bedding until you’ve taken a look at their quilted bedspreads.  They’re often made in contemporary colors being used in home décor.  Sometimes they are very good at portraying a specific theme (nautical, little girl, little boy, Victorian, etc.) and offer creative ideas that tweak the imagination.  You just never know where your next inspiration will come from!
  2.  Laying a “quilt sandwich” on a carpeted floor, then pinning in preparation for machine quilting can sometimes result in a less than smooth quilt.  So I’ve found  a better way.  If the quilt size allows, I first lay the backing on my dining room table and secure the edges with masking tape so nothing can slip.  Then the batting and top can be laid on top of the backing, using more masking tape to hold everything exactly in place.  Now you’re ready to pin!  And the masking tape is easily removed from both fabric and table.
